Solidarity Project: “Courage Champions”
The goal of the project is to facilitate social integration, personal development, and community cohesion through the
discipline of taekwondo for both displaced Ukrainian youth living in Sofia and their Bulgarian peers. We want to create a
supportive and inclusive environment where young people can find a sense of belonging, rebuild their lives, and forge
meaningful connections with their peers in their new community.
We conduct weekly training sessions to provide a consistent framework for participants to engage in taekwondo,
emphasizing not only the physical techniques but also the mental and emotional disciplines of the sport, to build strength,
resilience, and camaraderie.
We expect that the results of the project will reflect both personal growth for participants, and broader community impacts.
We believe participants will have significant improvements in their physical fitness and health.Additionally, we believe the
project will provide a positive outlet for stress and anxiety, contributing to improved mental health and emotional well-being
among the participants. The structured nature of taekwondo, coupled with the supportive group environment, will improve
resilience and create a positive mindset. By bringing together displaced Ukrainian youth and their Bulgarian peers, the
project seeks to break down barriers, foster mutual understanding, and build friendships across cultural divides, enhancing
social cohesion. Beyond martial arts, participants will develop crucial life skills such as discipline, respect, empathy,
leadership, and teamwork. These skills are invaluable for their personal growth and social integration. The project aims to
empower participants by providing them with opportunities to take on challenges, achieve goals, and recognize their own
potential, leading to heightened self-esteem and personal growth.
